Sir Edmund Hillary Outdoor Pursuits Centre of New Zealand- Outdoor Educators Course - Lead Instructor

The Outdoor Educators Course is OPC's flagship instructor training program and we are looking for an
experienced instructor to lead this twelve week course. The ideal person will have the following skills and abilities:

• A strong background both personally and professionally in tramping and teaching/facilitating ABL
• Qualifications in two of the following:
 Kayaking
 Rock Climbing
 Mountaineering
• In addition the ideal person will:
 Have a proven background in developing instructional ability
 Assessing against unit standards
 Developing and maintaining professional relationships with adult students
 A comprehensive knowledge of risk management in outdoor recreation and education
 A solid understanding of the New Zealand outdoor industry, NZOIA and Skills Active.

OPC is anticipating that this will be a developmental role for the successful candidate. The Spring O.E. Course starts on September 26th and we will be preparing a two week lead in time with on-going support and instruction. The Summer O.E. Course in March will have the same lead in time and the expectation will be for an increased level of independence. Our hope is that we will see the successful candidate develop the course significantly in the future.

In addition to delivering the O.E. Course you'll be expected deliver a full range of OPC courses and be a role model instructor and leader of the instructional team. Interested individuals need to apply in writing, including a C.V., copies of relevant qualifications, a cover

Training Coordinator Firearms and HUNTS

This is an established role with the New Zealand Mountain Safety Council, reporting to the Programme Manager Firearms and HUNTS. Your input and expertise will help us ensure we fulfil our mission of enabling people to enjoy the outdoors safely.

You will be responsible for assisting with the management and coordination of the Firearms and Hunter Training (HUNTS) programmes. In addition, you will be providing training and qualifications for firearms and HUNTS Instructors, and Range Officers.

You should have the ability to:
• plan and coordinate firearms, HUNTS and Range Officer programmes
• deliver training and assessment
• demonstrate presentation and instructional skills
• build and maintain relationships with volunteers and key partners
• recruit, mentor and qualify volunteer instructors and assessors
• demonstrate clear writing and reporting skills
• be available to travel nationally on a regular basis
Prior experience in firearms use, recreational hunting and shooting range activity is highly desirable, as is a strong understanding of firearms and hunter safety.

This is a full time position preferably based at the Mountain Safety Council National Office in Wellington.
