Bushcraft and risk management

The New Zealand Mountain Safety Council (MSC) stopped delivering bushcraft and risk management training courses from 31 May 2015.

To find out more about the changes the MSC is making and why, visit the One MSC page.

There are several providers offering bushcraft and/or risk management training courses across New Zealand. We’ve collated a list of potential providers below. However, it is worth noting that these providers all deliver different services/products, they may not be available in the area you live and they don’t necessarily deliver courses in all disciplines to all levels.

Note: This list has been compiled by the MSC to assist you in finding another bushcraft or risk management training course provider. It is not an exhaustive list of providers and there may be others you wish to contact. The MSC does not specifically endorse any of these providers, and recommends you undertake your own research in order to find a bushcraft or risk management training course provider that suits you.

If you are aware of another bushcraft or risk management training course provider that has not been included in the list below, please let us know by emailing qualifications@mountainsafety.org.nz.

Tramping clubs

There are a number of tramping clubs throughout NZ that offer instruction and training to their members. Joining a club is also a great way to connect with other like-minded people and learn through practical experience.

You can find contact information for most tramping clubs on the Federated Mountain Clubs website.
