Mountain Safety Council Courses

Our philosophy is to encourage and assist all who enjoy land-based outdoor adventure activities to develop their skills and knowledge and accept responsibility for their own safety.

To achieve this, our branches provide training in many outdoor disciplines such as: Abseil, Alpine, Avalanche, Bushcraft, Firearm Safety, Outdoor First Aid, Outdoor Leadership, Risk Management and River Safety.

All New Zealand Mountain Safety Council (NZMSC) instructors have undertaken a training and assessment process and have practical outdoors experience. Our instructors are genuinely interested in passing on their knowledge and skills and each holds a warrant in their chosen discipline(s).

Participant Ages
Some courses have a minimum age of 18 years, or 16 years if the student is accompanied by a participating parent or guardian.

Health and Safety
Participants are expected to take personal responsibility for their own safety, and follow instructions given by the Course Director.

Certificates
Certificates of attendance are issued. NZMSC does not offer a certificate of proficiency nor a leadership qualification.  New Zealand Qualification Authority unit standards are offered with the standard 2 day Outdoor First Aid course.

Registration
Each Branch will advise you on course registration, fees, refunds, transport and required gear.
